Using Your Oven for More Than Just the Basics

We’ve all used our ovens to bake a cake or roast a turkey. However, this kitchen appliance is far more versatile than you think. You can use your oven to follow a healthy diet, creating delicious and nutritious meals for you and your family.

Roasting Seasonal Vegetables

Throughout the year, different vegetables will come in and out of season. You can use your oven to roast these vegetables as a side dish to any meal or as simple protein. Roasted butternut squash and eggplant are delicious options in the fall. Options are endless in the summer, with zucchini, peppers, tomatoes and corn being easy to find at farmers markets and the grocery store.

You can even freeze all kinds of vegetables and freeze them. Pull them out and roast them throughout the year.

Throw a Pizza Party

Invite your friends over or cook for your family on a weeknight when everyone is home. Create different pizzas, bake them in your oven and have everyone sample the different varieties to see which they like best. Turning on your broiler for the last minute or two of cooking will make that cheese bubble and brown perfectly.

Sticking to a Healthy Diet

Now more than ever we are seeing the benefits of clean and healthy eating on a regular basis. Skip driving through a fast-food restaurant on your way home from work and use your oven to create a delicious and nutritious meal for you and your family. Don’t be afraid to make extras for lunch the next day.

The great thing about an oven is that you can put several ingredients on a baking sheet or in a baking dish and let it cook for a bit without having to do anything. One pan can include your protein, like chicken or fish, along with a host of vegetables. The best part is, you’re limiting your saturated fat intake, skipping refined sugars and loading up on a rainbow of nutrients.

Baking Your Own Bread

Many people love warm bread or rolls right out of the oven. Making your own doesn’t have to be as hard as you think it is. You can even experiment with creating your own sourdough starter to create different varieties of bread to use for breakfast with jam or along with sliced meats and cheeses for lunch or dinner.

Keep your oven running efficiently and reliably for many years to come. Reach out to our team at Signature Appliance in Chattanooga, TN for more information or to schedule an appointment for oven repairs or maintenance.
